First off Mcgonnagall is one of the characters who is always loudly proclaiming her dedication to Dumbledore, the good fight etc. but we really never see her do anything, whereas Snape supposedly the evil spy is there quietly but always saving the trios life and helping the order, a spy would act a lot more like Mcgonnagall than Snape, these are just a few examples from each book, the link above has many more examples

Book 1

Right after the death of the dark lord and the potters Mcgonnagall is watching as a cat making angry cat motions, also at this point it can be assumed that Mcgonnagall is an unregistered animagus because she acted surprised that Dumbledore knew she was there, If she was waiting for dumbledore why didn’t she immediately go human and say hello? She also is complaining about the wizards rejoicing about Voldemort’s death.

When the trio is discovered after having fought the troll Snape gives them a “piercing glance” Quirrel almost faints and mcgonagall is just pissed, some would say thats because shes angered that a troll got in, but she dosen’t even show any sign of relief that the trio is alive, she awards them a mere 5 points for saving Hermione’s life.

How is it that Mcgonnagall who is supposed to be a very powerful witch, who is also supposed to be very smart misses what three first year kids with much less insiders’ information figured out, that the stone is in danger and even if she missed all that once they warn her she should be able to piece it together, and if she was innocent i am sure that she would have and warned Dumbledore, but she already knew and was privy to the plan, this is supported by the fact that of all the obstacles Quirrel had to face the chess set was completely undamaged as if he knew the secret to somehow deactivate it.

Book 2

It seems as though it would be a pretty big waste to use something that houses 1/7 to get revenge on a child, even if Malfoy sr. was not privy to the secret of the horcruxes Voldy would have at least told him to keep it safe. Then the plan completely defeats itself because Mcgonnagall becomes head mistress instead of the supposedly evil Snape, but if you look at it from this angle than you use the diary to change the leadership of Hogwarts to affect hundreds of young minds, the plan now makes much more sense.

Once again as the trio or in this case the duo barley avoids death Mcgonnagall dosen’t seem to happy, in fact she reprimands harry on a rule! after saving Ginny’s life, this brings us to another point, Mcgonnagall was supposed to be keeping watch during the time period in which Ginny went into the bathroom and didn’t come out suspicious much? then how does she know that Ginny was the girl taken into the chamber, on the wall it only said “her”, theirs no way Mcgonnagall had time to do a head count before telling ron, and if she suspected from Ginny going into the bathroom why didn’t she follow her in, she is the head of Gryffindor, the house of courage after all

book 3

Not much here because there’s no Voldy, only point to make is that the amount of Mcgonnagall coincides with the amount of Voldy.

Book 4

Mcgonnagall seems absoulutley delighted that harrys going to be in the triwizard tournament, risking his neck every 5 minuetes

Mcgonnagall was also the one loudly discussing gillyweed with moody, some would say she honestly wanted to help harry, but shes normally so uptight and against rulebreaking she wouldnt cheat unless she had an agenda

Mcgonagall was one of the ones patrolling outside the maze whos to say she didnt do some of that voodoo that she do, to help harry along

another important point is that Mcgonnagall was sent to keep barty crouch jr. safe from fudge, but she cant manage to defend him against one demenetor, a large group of 15 year olds can manage it but she cant…right…, but look at the consequences of him dying, if he was alive fudge would have had to face the truth, but dead Fudges head could remain in the sand for another year

Book 5

during the entire course of this book when do we really see Mcgonnagall doing anything for the order

Why does she not follow her own advice and stay out of umbridges’s way, instead she gets conveniently attacked and so shes not at hogwarts when harry most needs her, coincidence? maybe, but..maybe not

Book 6

Whenever theres was an accusition against draco in this book Mcgonnagall strongly denied it, she was the one who provided the alibi for the necklace incident

Right after dumbldores death Mcgonnagall quickly moves into dumbldores office and brings harry there alone, she then begins drilling him on what the secret was that dumbldore told him, she switches between harry and potter showing her losing control of her act if you carefully reread this scene with this theory in mind you will start to notice what im talking about

Remember the Durmstrang ship? It somehow emerged from the depths of the lake at Hogwarts. How did it do it? Could someone else do something similar?

Firstly, what exactly did the Durmstrangs do? My opinion is they went under the water near the Durmstrang Institute and somehow transferred to the Hogwarts lake.

Second, how did they do it? Is it easy to do? Could someone do it without the ship? We may never know.

Here’s the bad part: Could Voldemort get into Hogwarts in a similar manner? If he couldn’t, what if he hijacked the Durmstang ship? Are there spells that would prevent him from going through the lake? If so, Dumbledore probably lifted them only temporarily for the Triwizard Tournament (in which case, Hogwarts is most likely safe).

There are a few people that think Voldy will attack Hogwarts through the lake, and Harry will attempt to stop him. If they are wrong, we’ll never know the answers to these questions.

Here’s a new theory about how the ship works: It’s a portkey! The Durmstrangs could have turned the ship into a portkey so they could easily get to Hogwarts. Does this mean Voldy could make an illegal portkey and sneak into Hogwarts? Maybe not. There could be portkey-protection around Hogwarts. Dumbledore probably lifted the spells for the duration of the tournament. Why would he leave Hogwarts unprotected for so long? Why not just remove the spell at the beginning and end of the year? I think that portkeys maintain a magical connection, a sort of “lifeline”, with their place of origin. If Dumbledore had put the spell back in place, the ship may have returned to Durmstrang Institute — or even vanished completely — without the Durmstrang students.

In Order of the Pheonix (OOTP), JKR introduced Legilimency. Dumbledore said he and Snape were both accomplished at legilimency.

She was obviously setting up the plot in Goblet of Fire to lead up to the introduction of legilimency and Occlumency in book 5.

So here’s the question: Why didn’t Dumbledore or Snape realise that the person they thought was Alastor Moody was really an impostor?

This is a good question. Why didn’t they? Dumbledore and Snape seem to be able to tell when someone is or isn’t lieing just by looking at them. Their “victims” can’t really tell what’s happening either.

A few times throughout the series, Harry has “felt like he was being x-rayed” by Dumbledore. One such time was in Chamber of Secrets, not long after Harry found Mrs. Norris petrified.

Snape seems to be able to sense when Harry is lieing to him.

So why didn’t they realize that “Moody” was a fake. My best guess is Barty Crouch Jr. was employing the use of occlumency to block Dumbledore and Snape. But wouldn’t they have been suspicious when they were unable to penetrate his mind? Not necessarily. Mad-Eye was an Auror. He probably knew a lot about legilimency and occlumency. The real Moody would be afraid that dark wizards were everywhere trying to “read” his mind. So Snape and Dumbledore may not have thought it suspicious. They may not have even tried legilimency, even when things started to look suspicious.

Or JKR could have not developed legilimency at all(or not enough) until OOTP, so she didn’t think of that when writing GOF.

What do you think? If you have a theory, post it on the forums. If you want to give feedback on this article, send me a PM on the forums.

This is a retyped version of this article. The first version was unfortunately lost, but this is pretty close to the original

The Department of Mysteries (DoM) is well, a mystery. Allegedly the wizards who work there, known as “unspeakables” are mysteries themselves.

The Unspeakables

We’ll talk about the unspeakables first. Who are they? That’s hard to say. Supposedly when you apply for a job there, if you’re accepted, you are instructed to forget your identity. Then you are issued a new one from their database. This is what we are lead to believe from the books. It could be that you are issued a new name, but can still use your old one… If you don’t tell anyone what your job is.

What do the unspeakables actually do? That’s easy, they research various subjects. Read book 5 again. Back already? did you notice the different rooms? They all had some sort of experiment in them. So the unspeakables are basically scientists. Most likely scientists that work on controversial magical subjects, like time — or those brains.

The Brains

Those weird brains, what’s with them? Why are they there? [Author's note: Do I really want to know? Maybe not...] Luna said they were “Aquavirius Maggots”. We know this is not true for two reasons. 1) They’re brains. 2) When has Looney Lovegood ever been right? My best two guesses are as follows. 1) The ministry wants artificial brains so they can swap-out someone’s brain. This would allow them to create a mindless army. 2) They’re the brains of people who have either witnessed the horrors of the DoM or have in some way annoyed the Minister of Magic. 3) They are being preserved. They could contain valuable knowledge or something weird like that. 4) Pickled brains are a popular wizarding delicacy.

The Veil

This one’s got loads of wonky theories tacked on to it. What exactly is that weird veil thing that Sirius fell through? According to JKR, it is NOT for execution, and she will jinx anyone who says otherwise. The room itself looks like a wizengamot courtroom, except there’s a stone dais in the center. Odd isn’t it? Sounds the opposite of what JKR says (I’m not disagreeing JKR! No jinxing will be necessary!). Harry had a strange feeling that there were people on the other side of the veil, even though there’s just empty space behind the stone dais. There was a faint whispering from behind the veil that no one but Harry and Luna could hear — remind you of the thestrals? JKR is going to have a lot to explain in book 7! Oh yeah, it may be called the Death Room as well. After Dumbledore duels Voldy, he tells Fudge that there are Death Eaters in the “Death Room”. Remember what the unspeakables are? Scientists. Could it be a portal, or device for communicating with the dead?

The Time Room

The Time Room is one of the coolest rooms in the DoM. Since prophecies are related to time (and because to get to the Hall of Prophecies you need to go through the Time Room) I’ll place all my prophecy data here. First up, the bell jar. What is it for? I have no idea. It could be for changing the something to a previous or future state (as “demonstrated” by the Death Eater and the bird in the jar). The cabinet of Time Turners is self-explanatory, so I’ll move along to the Hall of Prophecies. Did you notice the label on the prophecy about Harry?

S.P.T. to A.P.W.B.D.
Dark Lord and (?) Harry Potter

A.P.W.B.D., that’s Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. From this you can probably figure out who S.P.T. is.

Now that you know about all this, I’ll have to… Obliviate!.

Did you realize that JKR said she’d put a bunch of things in the sixth book, but didn’t?

In this article, I will list some of them, along with reasons I think they wren’t included, and whether or not I think they will be in book 7.

Lets get started.

Snapes Bogart and Patronus will be important to the future of the series. They will be revealed in books six and seven. Were either of them revealed in book six? I don’t think so. I believe that they would have given away too much. As you probably know, I don’t think Dumbledore is really dead (See [the character] is alive). I think Snape’s Bogart is Voldy, and his patronus is Dumbledore. I know that up to this point patronuses (or patroni?) have all been animals, but I still think it’s possible.

The reason for killing off Sirius will be revealed in books six and seven. JKR might have partially answered this, but not out in the open. The Horcruxes! Sirius wouldn’t have let Harry go out looking for them. I doubt he would’ve let Harry go after Voldemort either. I’m not sure if Dumbledore would let him either. Could that mean Dumbledore’s really dead?

You will find out what Dudly saw when the Dementor’s attacked in book 5. This was definitely not in book 6. My guess is there wasn’t any room in the book (How can there not be enough room in a Harry Potter book?). Hopefully it will be in book seven.

Someone will learn magic unusually late in life. Oh really? I don’t think so. Maybe in book seven. I wonder who could be learning magic? Harry’s aunt? Hagrid? There’s no way to tell! I’m guessing it’s not Hagrid, because he already knows some magic.

That’s all I can think of right now, but I’ll add more in the future (when I have time…).

Okay, this has been talked about a lot, but I want to give my views on it. As a note, I’m NOT a huge fan of Draco Malfoy. I don’t really care that much if he get’s killed off in book 7 or not.

So, what could happen in book 7 regarding Malfoy? Where did he go after helping the Death Eaters into Hogwarts? Did he go somewhere with Snape? Did he go to Voldemort? It’s speculating time!

Where did he go?

After letting the Death Eaters into Hogwarts, Malfoy failed to kill Dumbledore. Snape finished the job for him. After all that, the Death Eaters all headed for the hills. They ran outside the Hogwarts grounds and disapparated. It’s unlikely they all went to the same place. Well, unless they all went to the Dark Lord.

First of all, I don’t believe they went directly to their destinations. I think they first apparated to a midway point, walked to a location with brooms waiting, flew most of the way, then landed and walked the rest. Why would they do that? Dumbledore has said before that “magic leaves traces”. I’m sure a team of aurors could track them if they apparated directly to their destination. After all, if someone splinches, the Ministry pounces on them. The squad they send tracks down both halves of the wizard and undoes the magic.

Where’d he go though? Unlike most people, I don’t think he went to Voldemort. If he did, there’s a good chance he’s dead.

Death Eater HQ

So where is the Death Eaters’ headquarters? They have to have one, right? Voldy can summon the DEs with the Dark Mark tattoos, but they still need a good, secure, place to meet. It probably isn’t the Riddle House. Everyone knows about that. Spinner’s End isn’t either. I think that’s either Snape’s house or a temporary safe house for a few Death Eaters. So where is DE HQ? I have no idea! That almost deserves a whole article to itself…

Voldemort - Out to get Draco?

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, it said several times in the second chapter that Narcissa suspected that Voldy didn’t expect Draco to succeed in killing Dumbledore. It seems as if he expected Malfoy to be killed.

Why would Voldy want Draco dead? Reread chapter two (Spinner’s End) of the sixth book. Revenge after Lucius failed to get the prophecy would be one possibility, albeit one mentioned in the book… Don’t forget that Draco failed. He was supposed to kill Dumbledore, right? Didn’t the book actually say he ws to kill Dumbledore?

Where did he go? Part II

Here are my top ideas where I think Draco went after leaving Hogwarts:

Home to Malfoy Manor

Spinner’s End with Snape

Malfoy Manor for an hour, then into hiding

Azkaban - He was caught

He’s probably in hiding. He’ll probably continue hiding for awhile. Anyway, he’s hiding from the Order, the Ministry, and possibly Voldemort as well. Where to next, though? Will he stay hidden, or not?

Could Draco try to kill Voldy?

I wonder if he could try to kill Voldemort? It’s a possibility, although he is a chicken… He could have realized “Hey, Voldemort’s likely to be after me after I ran off, and the Order definitely is. The Ministry too…” He could try to help Harry, or he could make a pathetic attempt to kill Voldemort. Think about it. He doesn’t really have much to lose by that point. If he manages to kill Voldemort somehow, he could probably escape Azkaban. If he were to help Harry, Ron, Hermione, and whoever else, there’d be less of a chance he’d be killed.

Even if it makes more sense for him, would he help…in his words: Potter?

Then again… I could be wrong…

So who is R.A.B.? Regulus Arcturius Black, Sirius’s brother. What makes me think that? Quite a few things…

First of all, Mugglenet had a news article a news article a few months ago saying that HPLexicon had confirmed it. You can always trust Mugglenet!

Here’s a big tip-off: In some foreign language versions, the B matches the language’s word for Black (like R.A.N. for Spanish).

Mugglenet had a few scans of the Black family tree recently. JKR requested that certain names be blurred. I haven’t looked that closely yet, but I’d bet half My Firebolt’s handle (well…maybe not…) that one of those names was Regulus. Why? It probably had his middle name on it! As for the other names, JKR probably plans to introduce some new characters whose names would give away too much about book 7.

What about what Sirius said?

“He was murdered by Voldemort or on Voldemort’s orders, more likely. I doubt Regulus was ever important enough to be killed by Voldemort in person. From what I found out after he died, he got in so far, then panicked about what he was being asked to do and tried to back out…”

That was only what Sirius had heard. I think Voldy in person killed him you can probably guess why.

What about the locket? If Regulus stole it, where is it now? Hopefully he had a chance to destroy it. If he didn’t it could be at 12 Grimmauld Place…Or Mundungus Fletcher could have “commandeered” it (For sale: Gold locket with big S on it!).

That’s all for now! If you have anything to add, let me know. Then again, I could be wrong. R.A.B. could stand for Really Annoying Barfbrain…

Time for the most debated Harry Potter subject — horcruxes! In this article I will clear up common misunderstandings, point out my views, and possibly confuse you even more :-).

First of all, there are only three or four horcruxes left. The diary was destroyed in Chamber of Secrets. Marvollo’s ring was destroyed by Dumbledore (who is alive by the way) in HBP. Don’t forget the locket! It was found and most likely destroyed by R.A.B.. Then there is a part of Voldy’s soul in his regenerated body.

The locket is particlularly annoying. R.A.B. (whom I’m writing an article about) took it. Unfortunately, no one except JKR knows whether or not he destroyed it. If he did, there are only three horcruxes remaining. If he didn’t, it could be anywhere (but I have a few good guesses!).

We know that Riddle wanted objects with a powerful magical history for the horcruxes. Having secured Slytherin’s locket, he’d naturally try to get something of the other founders’. Most likely he didn’t get all four, but he definitely got two of the objects, possibly three.

He seems to have Hufflepuff’s cup. After all, why else would have he stolen it from Hepzibah Smith?

It is my belief that he managed to get his hands on something of Gryffindor’s. I think he found something of extremely high historical value. I think he found Godric Gryffindor’s wand.

I think he could have found something belonging to Ravenclaw as well. What is it? I have absolutely no idea. As for Gryffindor’s wand though, I think there’s a good chance I’m right. After all, what could be more historically important than Gryffindor’s wand?

Well, that’s everything! Please excuse any mistakes. This is a very confusing topic. If you have any corrections, let me know.

‘Jo came down to the set at one point and I said, “Oh hello, why are you here today?” And she said, “Oh I just needed a break from the book - Dumbledore’s giving me a lot of trouble.” And I said, “But isn’t he dead?” And she said, “Well, yeah, but it’s more complex …” I was like, [briskly] “OK, I’m not gonna ask anything else!”‘

Back in 2006, this exchange took place between Dan Radcliffe and J.K. Rowling.

What does it mean? It means Dumbledore isn’t dead! “What?! But JKR said he,” you may say. Here’s something you should be aware of: JKR has no obligation to tell the truth about something as important to the storyline as that. It’s very likely that she had to say that to end the hugely overblown speculation on the topic. Otherwise she would have given the answer away while being bombarded with questions on the topic.

How is that little quote enough evidence to say that? This is not some flashback, memory, portrait, or other means of interaction with Dumbledore. If he’s “giving her trouble” as she put it, he has to be in the book. If he was giving her enough trouble that she had to leave the city to get away from Dumbledore, clearly he has to have a major part in the book. She had to leave the city she lives in, does that sound like a flashback or memory to you?

There’s also the little problem of Harry still being untrained in everything he needs to do. Dumbledore basically told him about the horcruxes, but not the information he needs to obtain and destroy them. Do you think Harry could’ve went through the “Horcrux Cave” in book 6 without Dumbledore’s help? Heck no!

There are two options that describe what’s going on:

JKR had to lie about Dumbledore being dead so she wouldn’t give anything away.

JKR was planning to have Dumbledore dead, but she was forced to put him back in to help Harry.

Take your pick, I’ve got to go.

Okay, JKR said Dumbledore is dead. That doesn’t mean he won’t return. After all, she didn’t say he wouldn’t, did she? Who says Dumbledore doesn’t have some tricks up his sleeves? This article outlines some theories that “prove” that he will return.

The Phoenix Theories

Okay, let’s not forget one important thing: He’s Dumbledore…Savvy? Well, besides that. The important thing is he’s associated with the phoenix.

Think about it. His pet, Fawkes, is a phoenix, for instance. Who says Dumbledore doesn’t have similar powers. After all, there was that part at the end of book 6… You know, the one where Harry thought he saw a phoenix flying away.

Also, when you hear the name “Dumbledore”, what are the first three things you think of?

Then don’t forget about the theory that’s been spreading around lately that it wasn’t Fawkes who came to the Chamber of Secrets after Harry, but Dumbledore. You may have noticed that the book didn’t say specifically that it was Fawkes. Harry just thought it was. That’s typical of JKR.

Silver

According to Wikipedia, silver allegedly has loads of magical properties. What does silver have to do with Dumbledore? Lots.

A large quantity of Dumbledore’s spells are described as being “silver in color”. His hair has been described as a silvery white or grey. There are lots of mentioning of silver, quite a few being about Dumbledore, in the Harry Potter series.

Sp what are these magical properties? Luck is one good example. The great Wikipedia (who needs a paper encyclopedia, anyway?) says that silver is a “remedy” for various things in mythology. It’s also used in defense against Vampires and Werewolves. Could one of those remedies be useful for Dumbledore?

Avada Kedavra…Sort Of

Then there’s the weird Avada Kedavra spell. Every (yes, every) other time JKR has shown the spell in use, the target would just collapse. Why did Dumbledore fly into the air? Unless JKR and her editors are losing their marbles, there’s more going on than meets the eye (Aaarg! That’s two overused phrases in one sentence! That must be a record.). Surely an error like that would’ve been caught well before HPB went to print. Could Dumbledore be half dead?
Well, there are hundreds (if not thousands) of hidden “clues” scattered throughout the Half-Blood Prince and the rest of the series, just waiting to be uncovered and turned into theories. I unfortunately, haven’t found them all, nor do I have the time to.
