JKR obviously likes all this speculation going on. I think she said that once, but I’m not sure
Who doesn’t like the speculation? Would the books be half as fun without it?
One of the most talked-about (including horcruxes, but let’s not start that again!) things in the Harry Potter series is Albus Dumbledore’s alleged death. I’m not joking. Do a Google search. You’ll find tons of forum posts, blog posts, and websites talking about it.
Probably the biggest site about Dumbledore being alive is DumbledoreIsNotDead.com. It’s a great site, but don’t you think it came out rather quick? No one seems to remember the exact date it came out, but judging by forum posts I’ve found, it was on or before July 28, 2005. The HBP was released on July 16, 2005. That’s only 12 days, maximum!
Dave Haber somehow managed to put together this great site in twelve days or less. Just look at it! How was all that speculated and written in 12 days (or less)? He said himself that he has “written everything on the site, except for the pages in the ‘Sluggish Memory’ section”.
There’s more than just that site, though. There’s more sites, there’s blog posts, there’s forum posts, etc. The question is, what started all this? It’s got to me more than just the book.
Here’s my theory (co-theorized by minerva66): What if JKR started it? What if she tried to start a whole bunch of speculation to further increase the sales of Book 7? Or just for fun? There could be even more reasons for doing it.
Who knows who could be in on this? The publishers? Her agent? Dave Haber? Someone else? All I know is I’m not. Unfortunately
JKR obviously is amused watching us come up with ideas she knows are wrong. Who needs TV when you can read all these theories (who needs TV, anyway?). Even the stupid ones can be amusing, even if they’re dorky. I’m tired of this one: “Dumbledore will return because Gandalf did.” Meanwhile, JKR is like “Haha! I know the answer!”.
This all could’ve been started by either JKR or someone in on the conspiracy. If it wasn’t started by DumbledoreIsNotDead.com, it could’ve been a forum or blog post somewhere.
Maybe JKR will tell us if this is true when it’s all over.
